What first attracted me to apetito was the values that seemed to be at the heart of everything that is done here. I was keen to work within a food company, so when I found apetito and learnt more about how their food helped some of the most vulnerable people in the country, I knew it was the kind of place I wanted to work.

I first started at apetito in July 2015 in a placement role in the Foodservice division. It felt like I was given responsibility from day one which I loved. The focus at the start of my placement was quite market research heavy, looking at the market and exploring new opportunities for this area of the business. I was also responsible for organising a product launch event for our Foodservice customer, which was a massive learning curve for me but something I really enjoyed working on.

I then returned to the business in September 2017 on the graduate programme, moving into a role in marketing, supporting the B2B Business Units at apetito. A lot of my time as a graduate has been focussed on working with the Care Homes team, where I have covered a broad range of work. This included developing and executing trade events and exhibitions, creating print and digital ads, and working with the sales team on both lead generation and customer retention activity.

As well as this I have had the opportunity to work on many corporate marketing projects, including helping to organise and run the internal conferences and events we hold at apetito. I have now moved into a digital marketing role, where my responsibilities include the ongoing development of the apetito website, as well being a product owner for the development of new digital tools to help support our customers. Something that’s been great at apetito has been the support to move into new areas that interest me and allow me to continue to develop and learn.

My development during the graduate programme

I’ve had some exciting opportunities presented to me since starting at apetito. One of my highlights was the opportunity I had to go and visit our pea supplier. It was great to see first-hand where some of our produce comes from and helped bring to life how we talk about the provenance of our ingredients within marketing communications. I also had the opportunity to be involved in the production of new video content. I loved being able to experience how apetito makes a real difference in so many ways.

There are ongoing development opportunities at apetito; it’s something that’s really supported here. I’ve been on training courses to build on areas such as sales analysis and design skills. I’ve also recently had the opportunity to study a Chartered Institute of Marketing course. Any area I’ve identified as something I could build upon I have been supported in finding a training opportunity to do so.

As well as these opportunities to grow, the culture at apetito is something else that sets us apart; it’s the people here who make it such a great place to work. From day one of joining everyone has been open and welcoming, and it really feels as though everyone is passionate about making a real difference through their work.
I personally feel that I’ve been able to make a real difference by providing real added value to our customers. We work in partnership with each customer, meaning that it’s so much more than delivering food to their door. I’ve worked on projects that have helped make our customers lives easier, create bespoke materials to support customers, and have worked on projects and activities to enhance the health and well-being of the people eating our meals.

I feel I’ve been able to help make a real difference by supporting some of the great charity work that goes on at apetito.

We have a strong partnership with local charity, Alzheimer’s Support, and I’ve really enjoyed getting involved in this aspect of the business. I’ve taken part in fundraising events raising valuable funds to support the local community.
