James Leigh

I joined apetito in September 2012 on the very first Graduate Programme. I was initially drawn to apetito for several reasons; first and foremost, it’s a business which genuinely cares about its employees and their development. I spent time on the company website and read through many success stories from employees and each one of them mentioned the training and support they had received. As a graduate this was important to me, as I began my career I wanted to ensure I had the best possible start and apetito have definitely given me this. Another reason I was keen to join apetito was because of the company’s fantastic record of consecutive growth year on year.

My development during the graduate programme

I began my apetito career in Wiltshire Farm Foods, spending six months as a Marketing Executive for Healthcare Professionals. I was given the task of researching and establishing a suitable charity partner for Wiltshire Farm Foods. I was given support from my Line Manager but at the same time, I was given the authority to make strategic decisions.

Since then I have progressed through the business working in different departments and gaining experience across numerous markets. Upon completion of the Graduate Programme, I joined the Care Homes team and spent four years in different roles including; Client Development Manager and Key Account Manager. I am now the Divisional Manager for apetito’s Foodservice division and responsible for all aspects of the business unit, including; new product development, profit & loss and managing customer relationships. Throughout my journey I have been given support and opportunities to further my development. I have also been able to attend many training courses including; Sales, Negotiating, Management, Food Safety and Dementia Awareness.

I absolutely love working at apetito, the people, the products, the cause, all make a real difference.

I feel I have personally made a real difference in my roles at apetito, particularly whilst working in the Care Homes division. Being able to provide a resident a nutritious meal which will enhance their health and well-being gives me a real feeling of pride.
