Becoming a Sustainable Business
apetito is committed to being a sustainable company.
The goal of sustainable development is to enable all people throughout the world to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations."
''The World Commission on Environment and Development set out what is still the most commonly adopted approach to sustainability. This recognises that there are real challenges in delivering sustainability for both today and tomorrow and that to do so we must achieve concurrent progress over the environmental, social and economic agenda. As part of the social agenda we in the food industry must also deliver continuous progress in terms of nutrition, quality and food safety.
We all have a responsibility to take action and make a difference by focusing on what really matters. My hope is that our actions will demonstrate that apetito is doing exactly that and we have a programme of real and meaningful positive action right across the sustainability agenda. This extends from production to distribution, nutrition to waste, food safety to packaging, and purchasing to supporting the community. We have set ourselves tough targets and we are also fully engaged with wider stakeholders to gain a shared understanding of the issues that we all face.
As a business, apetito has a particularly positive social impact through its focus on nutritionally balanced food specially produced for vulnerable sectors of our community - such as the elderly, infirm, school children and hospital patients. We are confident that we can continue to have a positive and growing economic, environmental and social impact while at the same time providing great food and service to our customers and generating good returns for our shareholders.
My excitement and belief in our sustainability programme is founded in the visible commitment of our team - team apetito, and I hope you will sense that commitment too. We are determined to make a difference. However, we are not claiming to be perfect - our approach is all about continuous improvement for the long term.''

apetito are proud to support the Love Food Hate Waste campaign
Food waste has a big impact on global warming and we are doing all we can to avoid waste. Last year we diverted all our factory food waste away from landfill so that it is now processed by an anaerobic digestion facility. This process creates a compost like material as an end product and generates green electricity for the grid. Any occasional short date finished food stock we may have we don't throw away either, we pass that to our community partner FareShare who distribute food to the homeless and needy. We also believe that frozen food keeps waste down as our customers only need to prepare what they need on the day.
